“… The Shift in Human Nature

You're starting to see integrity change. Awareness recalibrates integrity, and the Human Being who would sit there and take advantage of another Human Being in an old energy would never do it in a new energy. The reason? It will become intuitive, so this is a shift in Human Nature as well, for in the past you have assumed that people take advantage of people first and integrity comes later. That's just ordinary Human nature.

In the past, Human nature expressed within governments worked like this: If you were stronger than the other one, you simply conquered them. If you were strong, it was an invitation to conquer. If you were weak, it was an invitation to be conquered. No one even thought about it. It was the way of things. The bigger you could have your armies, the better they would do when you sent them out to conquer. That's not how you think today. Did you notice?

Any country that thinks this way today will not survive, for humanity has discovered that the world goes far better by putting things together instead of tearing them apart. The new energy puts the weak and strong together in ways that make sense and that have integrity. Take a look at what happened to some of the businesses in this great land (USA). Up to 30 years ago, when you started realizing some of them didn't have integrity, you eliminated them. What happened to the tobacco companies when you realized they were knowingly addicting your children? Today, they still sell their products to less-aware countries, but that will also change.

What did you do a few years ago when you realized that your bankers were actually selling you homes that they knew you couldn't pay for later? They were walking away, smiling greedily, not thinking about the heartbreak that was to follow when a life's dream would be lost. Dear American, you are in a recession. However, this is like when you prune a tree and cut back the branches. When the tree grows back, you've got control and the branches will grow bigger and stronger than they were before, without the greed factor. Then, if you don't like the way it grows back, you'll prune it again! I tell you this because awareness is now in control of big money. It's right before your eyes, what you're doing. But fear often rules. …”

Holland must learn from Japan's ‘domino disasters’

The Netherlands should learn from how Japan is dealing with the repercussions from last week's earthquake. A chain of calamities like that, affecting the whole infrastructure, could also happen here in the Netherlands, says disaster expert Eelco Dykstra.

Despite all the problems with the nuclear power stations, Mr Dykstra believes Japan has responded adequately to its worst disaster since the Second World War.

“If there were to be an earthquake like this with a tsunami on top of it elsewhere in the world, I imagine the consequences of this chain of disasters would have been a lot worse.”

Mr Dykstra is a Professor of International Emergency Management at the University of Washington. He is full of praise for Japan’s disaster preparedness and response to the calamities. The Japanese owe a lot to the experience they gained after the 1995 earthquake in Kobe. Professor Dykstra applauds the strict building regulations in Japan, which ensure that many buildings can withstand an earthquake.

Blind spot

The Japanese rescue teams turned out immediately after the earthquake. They had huge supplies of blankets, water and food at the ready in order to help the people. The Netherlands should learn from this, says Professor Dykstra.

“It remains to be seen what supplies the Netherlands has lying ready. Our government says: ‘You should be able to get through the first two, three days yourself.’ In other words, citizens have to be self-sufficient, but what is lying ready? Not much, because the Dutch government assumes something like this will not happen. That’s a blind spot.”

Professor Dystra believes that a chain of disasters could also happen in the Netherlands. The Dutch dykes may be able to withstand a storm tide that only occurs once in 4000 years, but this is the false security of statistics. “It could also happen tomorrow.” Floods are the most likely disaster scenario to cause a domino effect in the Netherlands.

Disruptions

After a catastrophe has taken place, fulfilling citizens' basic needs is of vital importance. People need air, water and food, within three minutes, three days or three weeks. Professor Dijkstra:

“What would happen if there wasn’t any water, food, communication, transport and energy in the Randstad [the western, urban part of the Netherlands, consisting of the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht and their surrounding areas, ed.] for ten days?

Then everything would fall apart. If these things weren’t there, it would hugely disrupt public order. If financial transactions were no longer possible, an impromptu system of barter would be set up. It would be organised immediately, but also criminalised. And you can see they are well aware of this in Japan. They are doing all that’s necessary to prevent the vital infrastructure from collapsing.”

According to Professor Dykstra, the Netherlands does discuss risks and contingency plans, but only about ‘standard scenarios’: cyber security, pandemics, terrorism, climate change. He believes more attention should be paid to nightmare scenarios, whereby crucial facilities fail one by one.

Citizen involvement

Professor Dykstra believes the Dutch government should involve citizens more in crisis control, like in Japan, where crisis control is not only for but also by the people.

“In the Netherlands and Europe citizens aren’t a partner in crisis control, but some kind marginal phenomenon. The government acts from the arrogance of theoretical wisdom and believes it can determine what citizens do.”

Thus ignoring the fact that, time and time again, spontaneous intervention by citizens has been of priceless value in controlling crisis situations.
