“… The Shift in Human Nature

You're starting to see integrity change. Awareness recalibrates integrity, and the Human Being who would sit there and take advantage of another Human Being in an old energy would never do it in a new energy. The reason? It will become intuitive, so this is a shift in Human Nature as well, for in the past you have assumed that people take advantage of people first and integrity comes later. That's just ordinary Human nature.

In the past, Human nature expressed within governments worked like this: If you were stronger than the other one, you simply conquered them. If you were strong, it was an invitation to conquer. If you were weak, it was an invitation to be conquered. No one even thought about it. It was the way of things. The bigger you could have your armies, the better they would do when you sent them out to conquer. That's not how you think today. Did you notice?

Any country that thinks this way today will not survive, for humanity has discovered that the world goes far better by putting things together instead of tearing them apart. The new energy puts the weak and strong together in ways that make sense and that have integrity. Take a look at what happened to some of the businesses in this great land (USA). Up to 30 years ago, when you started realizing some of them didn't have integrity, you eliminated them. What happened to the tobacco companies when you realized they were knowingly addicting your children? Today, they still sell their products to less-aware countries, but that will also change.

What did you do a few years ago when you realized that your bankers were actually selling you homes that they knew you couldn't pay for later? They were walking away, smiling greedily, not thinking about the heartbreak that was to follow when a life's dream would be lost. Dear American, you are in a recession. However, this is like when you prune a tree and cut back the branches. When the tree grows back, you've got control and the branches will grow bigger and stronger than they were before, without the greed factor. Then, if you don't like the way it grows back, you'll prune it again! I tell you this because awareness is now in control of big money. It's right before your eyes, what you're doing. But fear often rules. …”

65 years on, Germans still absent from national war memorial

Commemoration of those who died in the war is evolving. But will the German ambassador be welcome at Dam Square’s national event on May 4?

Controversy has flared up since the German ambassador to the Netherlands stated on television that he would be happy to attend the national memorial event on May 4. The committee responsible for the event immediately announced that he wouldn’t be invited. But arguments started in the Dutch media.

“This discussion was closed twenty years ago,” says a former chair of the committee, Judith Belinfante. “After the German unification of 1990 we considered whether to invite all European ambassadors or none at all. We decided on the latter.”

But Jan Franssen, the current deputy chair, doesn’t agree. “With Dutch participation in international missions, and the casualties that result, the international element of Memorial Day becomes more pronounced. We have to broaden the content of the commemoration of war dead,” he said. So the committee has launched a public debate.

In 2000, the Dutch ambassador to Germany had called for Germans to be invited to Memorial Day events in The Netherlands. To no effect. Yet in 2004, German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder attended celebrations of the 60th anniversary of D-Day. And local celebrations in the Netherlands have been changing as well, particularly along the German border. Since his appointment in 2006, Ambassador Laüfer has often been invited. “Since 2001, 2002, invitations have been increasing and we are now invited everywhere,” he told the newspaper BN/De Stem in 2007.

"If he comes, I won't"

But at the national celebrations in the heart of Amsterdam? That sticks in some throats. If he comes, I’ll stay away, wrote former resistance fighter, Loek Caspers in Trouw newspaper. We aren’t ready for reconciliation, said rabbi Evers in NRC Handelsblad. Pauline Krikke, mayor of Arnhem, who invited the ambassador to the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the Battle for her city said, “We won’t get any further in ridding ourselves of this image we have of Germans as ‘the enemy’ if we don’t invite the German ambassador.”

Since the 1990s, there have been calls for reorganizing the national event. In 1995, fifty years after the end of the war, the German professor of history Jürgen Hess argued for the presence of the German president in NRC Handelsblad.

“It would be good if present-day Germans weren’t regarded as the perpetrators of the second world war, but made to feel welcome by their neighbours,” he wrote.

But Madelon de Keizer, historian of the Dutch Institute for War Documentation, says the current controversy suggests the war is still fresh in Dutch memory. ”Germany was strongly forced to confront the past during the cold war and the unification process. The Netherlands not.”

The return of facism elsewhere?

She thinks it is therefore inappropriate for the German ambassador to be present during the commemoration. “What would he do there?” she asks. “Undoubtedly he’d be thinking about the Germans killed in the war. For whom, then, would he lay a wreath?”

Selma Leydesdorff, researcher into history and trauma, dismisses that argument. “You hardly deal with personal loss then. All the grief is thrown into one big pile.” She points out that she herself was thrown out of a restaurant in Poland recently because of her Jewish appearance. She sees “rising fascism” in Europe. “Let all civilized people gather on Dam Square to say that we don’t want that. The German ambassador is welcome, I’d have more problems with the Polish or Ukrainian ambassador.”

Many appreciate the German approach to their past. That is a good reason for reconciliation, argues deputy minister for European affairs Frans Timmermans. The chair of the upper house of parliament, René van der Linden, agrees. ”Reconciliation creates a valuable bond,” he says, “particularly with people and countries who have demonstrated they are worthy of it. Shouldn’t we look at the question in this light?”
