Morenatti Marlène van Gansewinkel has broken a Paralympic record and won gold in the 100m sprint for The Netherlands.
She completed the race in 12.78 seconds and ran the final alongside compatriots Fleur Jong and Kimberly Alkemade, who came fourth and fifth.
The win takes Van Gansewinkel’s total to two golds and one bronze in these games. She has already broken the Paralympic record in the 200m, with a time of 26.22 seconds.
Meanwhile, on the last day of the games, Dutch swimmer Chantalle Zijderveld also won gold in the 200m medley, smashing the previous world record with a time of 2 minutes and 24.85 seconds.
The Netherlands has already surpassed the number of gold medals won in Rio in 2016 and on Friday afternoon was in sixth place on the world medal chart, with 22 golds, 15 silvers and 16 bronze medals – ahead of Brazil, Australia and Germany.
