Prince Harry was in The Hague on Thursday for the official launch of the Invictus Games, the annual sports competition for injured members of the armed forces which will be held in the Netherlands in May 2020.
Harry, who became a dad for the first time three days ago, was given several presents for the new baby, including an Invictus Games baby grow by Dutch princess Margriet.
In a short speech, the prince, who created the games in 2014, said he was ‘absolutely thrilled’ that many more injured, wounded and sick servicemen and women ‘will have the opportunity to continue the journey to their recovery’.
‘It’s your resilience, your determination and your courage which draws crowds in their thousands leaving them more inspired, moved and proud than they ever thought possible,’ the prince said.
“These men and women, who had given it all in service to their country, [will] now do the same on the sports field...” says @WeAreInvictus Patron The Duke of Sussex at the launch of One Year To Go until #IG2020 pic.twitter.com/DGrX4dQLJP— Invictus Games Foundation (@WeAreInvictus) 9 mei 2019
