Fundamentalist Christian party SGP and the anti-immigration PVV are the only
two parties in the senate to have voted against measures to make it illegal to
discriminate against people who are transgender or intersex.
The rest of the
senate voted in favour of amending current anti-discrimination laws to outlaw
gender identity discrimination alongside sex, religion, political beliefs, race,
nationality, sexual orientation and marital status.
The lower house of
parliament voted in favour of the measure in July 2018, again with only the PVV
and SGP against.
‘This is a great victory for transgender and intersex people,’
the Dutch association for sexual diversity NNID said.
