Pop star Rihanna has sent out a tweet
urging prime minister Mark Rutte and aid minister Sigrid Kaag to donate €100m
to fund educational programmes in developing countries.
‘I know that the
Netherlands wanted to pledge to support global education back in February, so
I’d love if you joined me now!’ the singer said.
She wants the money to go to
the aid group Global Partnership for Education, which she is ambassador for.
The money should be handed over at a festival she is promoting to raise funds
for the charity on September 29.
Hi @SigridKaag @markrutte @MinPres! I know that the Netherlands wanted to pledge to support global education back in February, so I'd love if you joined me now! Will you provide $100M to @GPforEducation on Sept 29 at the @GlblCtzn Fest? Dank je! @claralionelfdn 🇳🇱📚— Rihanna (@rihanna) August 20, 2018
Neither Rutte has not responded to Rihanna’s
tweet who has over 87 million followers on Twitter.
However, aid minister Kaag said in a Tweet back to the pop star on Tuesday morning that the Netherlands is ‘back in education’. The singer’s tweet is ‘music to our ears’ she said, before pledging that all will be revealed in New York next month.

Hi @Rihanna- this is music to our ears. The Netherlands is firmly back in education! All will be revealed in NY next month. Hope to see you there! #GlobalProspects @MarkRutte @MinPreshttps://t.co/iF4gduQiEr https://t.co/hBV0F6nqqC— Sigrid Kaag (@SigridKaag) August 21, 2018
