Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers has
won bronze in the 100m at the IAAF world athletics championships in London.
Schippers, the defending world champion over 200m, came in third behind the
Americans Tori Bowie (gold) and Marie-Josée Ta Lou (silver).
Olympic champion
Elaine Thompson, who has recorded the fastest times over 100m so far this
season, was fifth.
Schippers, who took silver in the 200m at last year’s
Olympics, has set her sights on defending her world title over that distance.
The heats for that event start on Tuesday with the final on Friday.
Earlier on
Sunday, Anouk Vetter was surprise winner of the bronze medal in heptathlon with
a national record of 6,636 points.
Sifan Hassan is the only Dutch athlete in
action on Monday. She is favourite to win gold in the 1,500m.
