The singer of Dutch 1990s group 2 Unlimited
has protested at the way the duo’s hit Get Ready For This is being used by US
presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
Trump used the number at a rally on Long
Island, New York earlier this month, leading Anita Doth to tell website Nu.nl
that she is not happy.
The song was written by Ray Slijngaard, the other half
of the duo, and Doth says if she had been the composer, she would have had
Trump banned from using it.
‘Why Ray and [2 Unlimited founder] Philip de Wilde
have not done so is a puzzle and I hope they are taking action,’ Doth said.
A
number of artists have moved to stop Trump using their music, including Adele,
REM and Neil Young.
It is not the first time a US presidential hopeful has used
Dutch pop on the campaign trail. In 2008, Hillary Clinton caused a small stir
when she opted for Golden Earring’s When the Lady Smiles.
Not only are the
lyrics suggestive, but the original video for the song featured lead singer
Barry Hay attempting to rape a nun.
