Anne Frank tree seedling in White House

A seedling from the famed Anne Frank tree in Amsterdam is likely to be planted in the garden of the White House in Washington.

The Support Anne Frank Tree foundation has confirmed its intention of presenting the tiny plant to President Barack Obama in late 2012. Talks with the US authorities are still underway but are expected to be concluded in a few weeks.

The chestnut tree, which Anne Frank could see from her World War II hide-out, was suffering from a disease and was knocked over by strong winds in August.
